Memberi petunjuk cara melakukan, mengoperasikan atau membuat sesuatu melalui serangkaian tindakan atau langkah.

c. Ciri kebahasaan:

1. Pola kalimat imperative (command/perintah dan prohibition/larangan)

Command:

* Slice the meat!

* Cut the stick!

* Press the button!

Prohibition: 

 * Don’t use cold water!

* Don’t wet the bamboo!

* Don’t touch the panel!

2. Action verbs, misal: kata yang digaris bawahi pada contoh “command and prohibition” di atas.

3. present verbs misal: kata yang digaris bawahi pada contoh “command and prohibition” di atas.

4. Connectives untuk mengurutkan kegiatan, misal: then, while, first of all, next, after that, finally, the last, make sure you …, remember to …, don’t forget to …, etc.

5. Adverbials yang menyatakan waktu, tempat, dan cara secara rinci dan akurat, misalnya : for five minutes, 2 cm from the top, at the front part, …., etc.

6. Adverbs of place/ kata keterangan tempat (bercetak tebal)↔ menjawab pertanyaan “Where”, misal: Put the jelly in the mould! Dip the clothes in the water , etc.

7. Adverbs of time/ kata keterangan waktu (bercetak tebal) ↔ menjawab pertanyaan “When/ How long”, misal: Baked the potato for five minutes!, Take the cabbage after the water is boiling, etc.

8. Adverbs of manners/ kata keterangan cara (bercetak tebal) ↔ menjawab pertanyaan “How”, misal: Stir the dough softly! , etc. Ket lain lihat pada bagian “Adjectives Vs Adverbs”.

9. Adverbs of frequency/ keterangan keseringan, frekuensi melakukan sesuatu (bercetak tebal) ↔ menjawab pertanyaan “How often/ How many times”, misal: always, often, seldom, once, twice, etc. Water the plant twice a day. Ket lain baca ket pada Simple Present Tense.

10. Adverbs of degree/ kata keterangan tingkatan (bercetak tebal) ↔ menjawab pertanyaan “In what degree” Boil the paraffin up to 100° C.

11. Adverbs of Quantity/ keterangan jumlah (bercetak tebal) ↔ menjawab pertanyaan “How much/ How many”, misal: Mix a glass of water, 250 grams of sugar and a spoonful of baking soda altogether, etc.

d. Contoh Teks :

a. How to make

Making ice mango juice is easy. First, peel the mango and cut a half of it into small pieces. Next, put the mango into the blender. Add two spoonfuls of sugar and 150 ml of water. After that, blend them all together for about three minutes. Then, give some ice-cubes and blend it. Don’t forget to pour the juice into a glass. And your fresh ice mango juice is ready to serve. 

 

b. How to operate

Put the ingredients or materials in a bowl. Set the beaters in their place or holes. Plug the electric wire into the electric source. Lower the beaters into the ingredients. Switch the mixer on, don’t forget to adjust the speed by pressing the knob on top of the mixer. Press the off knob if you have finished mixing. Depress the ejector knob to release the beaters.

 

c. How to do
